Ok, fixed. This was caused by a change in the initialization code I made on 2010-04-09 to better deal with power-on startup.

Please get the latest RF12 library from svn or the ZIP file and recompile + upload RF12demo again. That should eradicate this bug.

(English summary: there's a bug with sending KAKU commands in RF12demo, it hangs after one command, I'm going to investigate)

    [RF12demo] A i1 g212 @ 433 MHz

Available commands:
<nn> i - set node ID (standard node ids are 1..26)
(or enter an uppercase 'A'..'Z' to set id)
  <n> b - set MHz band (4 = 433, 8 = 868, 9 = 915)
  <nnn> g - set network group (RFM12 only allows 212)
  <n> c - set collect mode (advanced, normally 0)
t - broadcast max-size test packet, with ack
...,<nn> a - send data packet to node <nn>, with ack
...,<nn> s - send data packet to node <nn>, no ack
<n> l - turn activity LED on PB1 on or off
Remote control commands:
  <hchi>,<hclo>,<addr>,<cmd> f - FS20 command (868 MHz)
  <addr>,<dev>,<on> k - KAKU command (433 MHz)
Current configuration:
A i1 g212 @ 433 MHz
> 0k
A i1 g212 @ 433 MHz

    [RF12demo] A i1 g212 @ 433 MHz

but it is more problematic

What kind of problems can I expect to run in to?

Unfortunately I bought the components for the breadboard arduino before I found Jeenode. So I figured I'd just get an RF12 and hook 'em. I'm only using the LM317T because I can pick it up locally vs. having to wait for shipment.

The savings with the stripped down arduino+RF12 vs Jeenode are not worth all of the extra effort/problems.. so yeah, next one will be an actual jeenode.

Hi

I guess you need a shield on the Arduino (ethernet?) not yet available for JeeNode?
I have connected a RF12 to a Arduino using a level-converter etc. but it is more problematic then buying a extra JeeNode and using a short pair of weirs to connect it's serial interface to the Arduino (running a soft serial port and you're code) and then using RF12demo on the JeeNode and "calling" it from the Arduino.
Unless you plan on fabricating many devices and unless you can connect the shield directly to the JeeNode (timing problems, missing pins etc.) this "double CPU" is the way to do it in my opinion.

Would an LM317T be overkill to step down to 3.3v? I basically have a breadboard arduino being powered by a 12v wall wart. I'm thinking I could add the LM317T just under the onboard 5v regulator to make the whole board 3.3v.

Sparkfun makes 3.3v Arduino boards, but they don't have the built-in USB port that the Duemilanove (2009) has.
