When there is accelerometer coming out (http://news.jeelabs.org/2010/02/14/new-gravity-plug/), maybe compass plug too?

Jeenode is ideal for simple robotics (think about controlling roomba for example). Accelerometer is nice addition for that but getting orientation would be even better. 2-axis magnetometers are not really expensive (but soldering those is tricky part, same with accelerometers/pressure plugs etc.).

I'll look into it - but it's going to be a bit of a gamble whether I can actually solder all these tiny little things. ALso compass chips seem to be quite a bit more expensive...

About high price: maybe you could try preordering?

    Like

    • Telling what can be preordered and estimated price (at least 10 orders required before this date, price with 10 orders is X EUR, 20 orders Y EUR etc)
    • If minimum number of orders exceeded everything will be delivered, if not, order is canceled and money returned to paypal accounts

This way you don't have to make big investment but it is possible to test if something gathers enough interest.

Thanks for the suggestion, but it may not help that much. Quantity discounts start at 25, then 100. It's more that a 30 euro raw chip price will probably have to end up somewhere around 50 euro once I add VAT and pcb and assembly... if not even more. I'm ok with getting 5 or so to design/test and then cover first orders, since delivery is usually quick.

Could this be used http://www.futurlec.com/Compass.shtml ? It uses IIC, supply voltages match the JeeStuff plus you'd get pressure and temperature with the same board.
