Is there a way to still make changes to those pages (the markdown source)? There is still some stuff misssing on the antenna page and my soil moisture project will proceed this week...
Yes. The pages are maintained in subversion. Email me the username you'd like to use, and I'll set up subversion write access. The pages currently showing at cafe.jeelabs.net automatically get updated after each check-in.
Okay, thx!
I've updated and rearranged some pages at
So far, I think I haven't broken any URLs. The DOCS page at
All in the name of trying to help anyone coming from anywhere to get up and running with JeeStuff.
(Heh, if only I knew how to do that...)
More changes. The "first steps" page now has some more meaningful contents. The sections at the top of the daily weblog pages have been changed a bit to match the Jee Labs sites, and now include direct links to a new Intro page and to the Café. I hope this improves access for casual visitors ("what on earth is this site about?") as well as regular visitors ("where did page XYZ go?"), by using redirects for key pages which have moved to the Café (projects and code).
The old docs section is still reachable, but is not linked to anymore. I'll redirect it completely once the last few pages (some older info) have been replicated in the Café as well.
I haven't touched this forum, because I don't have a better alternative. I did recently find out that this forum supports RSS feeds: there's
Phew! It sure ain't easy evolving live websites like this!
Anyway, I hope you like the changes, and that it will improve the navigation experience for everyone.
UPDATE: there's also an RSS feed which lists only new topics, i.s.o. all new posts:
Four months have passed. But my desire to set up a good wiki for documentation and collaboration hasn't...
With the help of a few interested and very helpful people, I've set up a brand new area which is looking like an excellent option for Jee Labs. All the essential information from the cafe/docs site has been copied over to it, along with some new content.
The new setup will definitely replace the current cafe.jeelabs.net content (which will redirect to it, once that happens).
The new setup adds tight integration with the Jee Labs source code repository, an issue tracker (bug reports and feature requests), and management of versions, timelines, roadmaps, even a Gantt chart. This means that wiki pages can refer to issues and check-ins, versions can be tied to wiki pages, everything can be searched, etc, etc, etc.
The new setup also has discussion forums, with the same tight integration to the rest of the system (plus support for attachments, inline images, and linking to wiki pages).
If all goes well, the new setup may also replace this bbPress-based discussion forum one day. I'm going to make this decision at a later stage, independently of the rest.
So where is this new miracle setup, eh?
Well, that's a bit tricky - I don't yet want to publish a public link here, because then this would start the usual barrage of spidering and indexing ... and I can't deal with that until the Jee Labs internet connection has been upgraded (hopefully within a couple of weeks). For now, the new setup is sitting on the end of an ADSL connection with a very modest 1 Mbit uplink speed.
The plan is to move this new system to
If you are interested in the new setup: add "projects" as subdomain in front of the above URL and go check it out... note that this is a temporary domain name, once the site is live it will be dropped again.
If you'd like to help improve the new documentation pages, or if you would like to add content about topics of your own choice to the wiki, you are very welcome to register and do so (the current bbPress logins can't be transferred).
The forum on the new setup has been enabled, but please use this one here, i.e. talk.jeelabs.net for all discussions, as before. An extra forum has been created (over there) to discuss the new site, and to explore the new forum features.
Did I mention that the new forum / wiki / issue tracker supports email notification? Ah, yes, I just did... :)
