   Hi, I know this isn't a JeeStuff related question, but you guys are a helpful and knowledgeable lot...

   Can anyone suggest a better font for the Arduino GUI (and how to change it - I'm using Windoze XP)? Namely one where lowercase L and the number 1 aren't exactly the same... Yes, I've just been going slightly mad for about an hour looking for a bug! I tend to use l as a loop counter, so you can probably guess what happened!

   My arduino preferences.txt says: editor.font=Monospaced,plain,12

   Which is kinda, ummm, well a description of a font more than a name... I guess this means something to the Java environment and from there it picks the font it's currently using... I'd much prefer courier, or, well, basically anything where different characters look different!

   Can anyone assist?

   Don't have an answer to your question, but you can use your own favorite editor and the IDE just for compiling / uploading. That's what I do. Google for "arduino external editor" - it's not well-documented.

   tankslappa,

   if the font is your only problem, just change it in the preferences.txt file before starting the arduino IDE (not while it is running because it seems to save it to file when exiting).

   You can normally fill in the name of your installed fonts there. Java also has some TTF fonts packaged with it. See C:\arduino-0018\java\lib\fonts

   What seems to work most of the time is just putting in there the name of the font. But that did not work for the Courier font. What does seem to work all the time is to put the name of the font file without the extension. In the Windows font dir I found "cour.ttf" and this seems to work in the preferences.txt file: editor.font=cour,plain,12
