the jeenode Ports make a great interface... especially with the Ports library!
but, if you want to use them for something other than I2C... such as serial, is this possible? We have a serial device we want to talk to and don't want to steal the interface we use to talk to the USB-BUB. Any examples of this?

I don't know if JC has some specific stuff for this in his Ports lib.
But I do know that Arduino supports something called SoftSerial. You could look into that:

Hi I suggest you use the NewSoftSerial library on [http://arduiniana.org/libraries/NewSoftSerial/] which improves the SoftwareSerial. I have tested on the jeenode for a similar reason and it works pretty well.
