Just registered to post a hopefully useful message about Jaycar's 2x16 LCD module.
I got the hang of electronics again after purchasing an Arduino recently. Great little boards!
One of my projects needs an LCD and I purchased Jaycar's backlit LCD module, the SD1602G2 (Rev.0 0906). A small yellow sticker is also attached to the board and it reads SD1602GULB-XB-GB-R, 0911-069-003 QC OK, ROHS.
Initially I had the power lines reversed as per the pinout of one of my other lcd modules. When connected this way I noticed that the power indicator light on my arduino was glowing very weak and thought I might have blown it up. Experimenting never hurts and so I reversed the power lines and... Tadaa! It worked.
The pinout for the Jacyar SD16002G2 LCD module is correctly displayed in this document:
In case the link goes dead at some stage, here's the pinout:
15 Led Power Anode
16 Led Power Cathode
1 Vss (GND)
2 Vdd (+5V)
This is the schematic and program I used to get the results as seen in the attached picture:
Next up is to use a 74HC595 (8 bit serial shift register) to use only 3 I/O lines instead of 6 to drive the display.
