I just saw a very interesting advert on TV from EDF energy.
After looking at their site they seem to have something rather useful. As usual the one thing I want to find is mentioned on the site, but can I find the price or where to order them? Nope! Normal for the EDF wedsite , a triumph of form over function.
Anyway it's a remote power usage reporting device with some extra twists. 1) It has "transmitter plugs" which report the current use for devices connected to them 2) You can tell the plugs to turn off remotely.

Neato. Obviously these will have the superior/safe UK 3 pin plugs/sockets :o) Although I am sure they do exactly the same over on that larger landmass to the East with your funny plugs.
The website says the box comes with 3 "transmitter plugs", but that you can order more. That was what I was trying to track down, and failed. Also as I've only just changed tariff (annoyingly with EDF), I can't change it again for 11 months. They do say "worth £69", but again, don't give any method to buy the thing without the tariff change. I might try emailing them and see what the customer service desk in India say.
Hopefully these things use wireless and not data over mains cable (which would be the really obvious route!).
