Today I wanted to connect my new Jeenode v5 to my USB-BUB. Guess what.. the USB-BUB is not responding. This is my second dead USB-BUB. This one lights the LED but doesn't get detected in Windows. My other USB-BUB did get detected but got the lit led after you connected a Jeenode. Anyone else having bad experiences with these USB-BUB's ? And, does anyone have a decent alternative?

That sounds very unlucky. I have two USB-BUBs which I regularly swap about on various boards and they both work perfectly.
The other connection method I use is an FTDI-TTL-232R-5V USB cable I bought from moderndevice a few years ago. Unfortunately they don't seem to supply it any more, but a quick google shows there are many sources. Inluding Farnell. http://uk.farnell.com/ftdi/ttl-232r-we/cable-usb-ttl-ser-conv-5v-wire/dp/1740364
It's nice as it is self-contained, a USB plug on one end and the 6 pin header on the other. You can get a 3v3 version too, but my 5v works fine. The power line is regulated by the JeeNode, and the 5v logic levels are well within the tolerances of the ATmega. In fact a 3v3 cable might possibly have a problem as the regulator will cause a voltage drop on the power line unless it is bypassed.

Thanks for the hint tankslappa, it reminded me that I had a FTDI cable laying around.. Using that one right now :-)

I'm not going to ask what you are doing to those poor USB-BUBs!

They are going to fly!

> They are going to fly!
As in "into the garbage bin", or "out the door", or... ?
Did they really get damaged? I'd be interested to try and understand what happened.
