I'm still exploring bbPress - most features are handled though plugins, which need to be found, installed, and activated...
Added email notification as option in user profiles. Only works for topics flagged as favorite.
I'll use this topic ("Forum changes") for all bbPress config/feature changes from now on. Mark it as favorite if you want to hear about them!
